A group of Filipino community organizations in Qatar comprising of members mostly from the grassroots called "Bayanihan" is set to hold a one-day sportsfest on November 10, Friday at Al Arab International School in Doha.

Aside from promoting unity and teamwork among the member groups, the sportsfest also aims to engage the expats who are mostly working in the construction and household services sectors in a fun-filled event that would showcase their skills in basketball, volleyball, badminton, and other team and individual games.

Bayanihan, a cooperation of more than 29 Filipino organizations registered or recognized by the Philippine Embassy in Qatar, has been active in reaching-out to Filipino expatriates in Qatar by providing assistance especially to distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). Filipino community leaders in Qatar welcomed Philippine Overseas Labor for Philippine Labor Secretary Silvestre H Bello III and his official delegation to Qatar with a short dance presentation showcasing the united leadership of various groups during a community assembly held at the at the City Centre Rotana Doha on October 16.

Around 200 community leaders representing more than 100 community groups attended the event hosted by the Philippine Embassy Doha and Philippine Overseas Labor Office.

APO, community groups spare an afternoon to raise funds for Manila orphanage

Several community groups participated in a bowling for a cause event organized by Alpha Phi Omega Qatar Alumni Association (APO-Qatar AA) at the Qatar Bowling Centre on October 20.

The Inter-Organization Bowling Tournament and Fundraiser was held to raise funds for Tahanan ng Pagmamahal Children’s Home Inc, an orphanage located in Barangay Sagad in Pasig City, Philippines. The beneficiary is a SEC-registered charity established in December 2006 which to date serves as a sanctuary for 6 girls, 20 boys and 23 babies.
